Terminalia januariensis
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Terminalia januariensis faces severe pressure from urban expansion and agricultural development throughout its limited range in southeastern Brazil. The species' restricted distribution in coastal Atlantic Forest fragments makes it particularly vulnerable to habitat fragmentation and edge effects. Logging and conversion of remaining forest patches for cattle ranching continue to reduce available habitat, while the species' slow growth rate limits its ability to recover from disturbance.
Habitat
This tree species is endemic to the Atlantic Forest (Mata Atlântica) of southeastern Brazil, occurring in lowland and montane rainforest remnants. It typically grows in well-drained soils within primary and secondary forest formations, often found along forest edges and in partially disturbed areas.
