Syzygium khaoyaiense
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Syzygium khaoyaiense faces severe threats from habitat destruction and fragmentation within its extremely limited range in Thailand's Khao Yai National Park region. Deforestation pressures from agricultural expansion and infrastructure development continue to reduce the species' already restricted forest habitat. The species' narrow endemic distribution makes it particularly vulnerable to localized environmental changes and human disturbances.
Habitat
This endemic species inhabits tropical evergreen forests in the mountainous regions of central Thailand, specifically within and around Khao Yai National Park. It occurs in primary forest ecosystems at elevations between 400-800 meters, preferring areas with high humidity and dense canopy cover.
