Symplocos corymboclados
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Symplocos corymboclados faces severe pressure from ongoing deforestation and habitat fragmentation across its limited range in the Western Ghats of India. Agricultural expansion, particularly coffee and tea plantations, continues to encroach upon its montane forest habitat. The species' restricted distribution makes it particularly vulnerable to localized threats, with small population fragments increasingly isolated from one another.
Habitat
This endemic tree species inhabits montane evergreen forests and shola grassland ecosystems in the Western Ghats of southern India. It typically occurs at elevations between 1,200-2,000 meters in moist, cool forest environments with high rainfall and persistent cloud cover.
