Sorocea longipedicellata
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Sorocea longipedicellata faces severe threats from deforestation and habitat fragmentation in its restricted range within the Atlantic Forest of Brazil. Agricultural expansion, particularly cattle ranching and sugarcane cultivation, has eliminated much of its original forest habitat. The species' extremely limited distribution makes it highly vulnerable to local extinctions from even small-scale habitat disturbances.
Habitat
This species is endemic to the Atlantic Forest (Mata Atlântica) of southeastern Brazil, occurring in humid lowland and montane forests. It typically grows in the understory of primary and well-preserved secondary forests with rich, well-drained soils.
