Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
The Slim-faced Slender Mouse Opossum faces severe pressure from deforestation and habitat fragmentation across its restricted range in the Atlantic Forest of southeastern Brazil. Mining activities and urban expansion have eliminated much of its original forest habitat, while remaining fragments are too small to support viable populations. The species' specialized arboreal lifestyle and apparent sensitivity to habitat disturbance make it particularly vulnerable to ongoing forest conversion for agriculture and development.
Habitat
This species inhabits primary and secondary Atlantic Forest (Mata Atlântica) in southeastern Brazil, preferring dense canopy areas with abundant epiphytes and climbing vegetation. It occupies both lowland and montane forest zones, typically in areas with high humidity and complex vertical forest structure.
