Simon's Robber Frog
Pristimantis simonbolivari
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Pristimantis simonbolivari faces severe threats from rapid deforestation and agricultural expansion within its extremely limited range in the Venezuelan Andes. Mining activities and infrastructure development have further fragmented the remaining cloud forest habitat. The species' restricted distribution to high-elevation sites makes it particularly vulnerable to climate change impacts, as warming temperatures force suitable habitat upslope with nowhere left to retreat.
Habitat
This species inhabits montane cloud forests and elfin woodlands at elevations between 1,800-2,400 meters in the Cordillera de Mérida of Venezuela. It requires pristine forest environments with high humidity, dense vegetation cover, and the specialized microclimate conditions found in these high-altitude Andean ecosystems.
