Sideroxylon anomalum
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Sideroxylon anomalum faces severe pressure from agricultural expansion and urban development across its native range in southern Africa. Overgrazing by livestock has degraded much of its natural habitat, while the species' slow growth rate makes recovery from disturbance particularly challenging. Collection for traditional medicine and timber use has further reduced wild populations, especially of mature reproductive trees.
Habitat
Sideroxylon anomalum occurs in dry woodland, bushveld, and savanna habitats across southern Africa, typically growing on rocky outcrops and well-drained soils. The species is adapted to semi-arid conditions and is often found in areas with seasonal rainfall patterns.
