Sehuencas Water Frog
Telmatobius yuracare
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Telmatobius yuracare faces severe threats from habitat degradation in its restricted Bolivian range. Water pollution from agricultural runoff and mining activities contaminate the streams this aquatic frog depends on for survival. The species' extremely limited distribution makes it particularly vulnerable to local environmental changes, while the ongoing expansion of human activities in the Cochabamba region continues to fragment and degrade remaining suitable habitat.
Habitat
This aquatic frog inhabits clear, fast-flowing mountain streams in the cloud forests of Bolivia's Cochabamba Department. It occurs at elevations between 1,800-2,400 meters in pristine headwater streams with rocky substrates and abundant vegetation cover.
