Parosphromenus allani
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Parosphromenus allani faces severe pressure from rapid deforestation and peat swamp conversion across its limited range in Peninsular Malaysia and southern Thailand. The species' dependence on pristine blackwater habitats makes it particularly vulnerable to water quality degradation from agricultural runoff and urban development. Palm oil plantation expansion has eliminated vast areas of suitable lowland forest habitat, while the aquarium trade creates additional collection pressure on remaining wild populations.
Habitat
This species inhabits shallow, acidic blackwater streams and peat swamps in primary and secondary lowland forests. It requires soft, tannin-rich waters with dense aquatic vegetation and fallen logs, typically found in areas with minimal human disturbance.
