Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
The Rusty-tinged Antpitta faces severe pressure from ongoing deforestation and habitat fragmentation across its limited Andean range in Peru and Bolivia. Agricultural expansion, particularly for coca cultivation and cattle ranching, continues to reduce the montane cloud forest habitat essential for this ground-dwelling species. Mining activities and road construction further fragment remaining forest patches, while climate change threatens to shift suitable habitat zones upslope beyond the species' current elevational range.
Habitat
This species inhabits humid montane cloud forests and elfin forests at elevations between 1,800-3,400 meters in the eastern Andes. It prefers dense understory vegetation with thick leaf litter where it forages on the ground for invertebrates, particularly in areas with bamboo thickets and moss-covered terrain.
