Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
The Rufous-necked Foliage-gleaner faces severe pressure from deforestation and habitat fragmentation across its Atlantic Forest range in southeastern Brazil. Mining activities and agricultural expansion have eliminated much of its specialized montane forest habitat, while remaining forest patches are increasingly isolated. The species' dependence on dense understory vegetation for foraging makes it particularly vulnerable to forest degradation and edge effects.
Habitat
This species inhabits dense Atlantic Forest understory in montane regions of southeastern Brazil, typically between 500-1,500 meters elevation. It requires mature forest with thick vegetation layers and abundant epiphytes where it forages for insects and small arthropods among leaves and bark crevices.
