Parkia bahiae
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Parkia bahiae faces severe pressure from deforestation and habitat fragmentation across its limited range in Brazil's Atlantic Forest. Agricultural expansion, particularly cattle ranching and sugarcane cultivation, has eliminated much of its original forest habitat. The species' restricted distribution makes remaining populations highly vulnerable to local extinctions from continued forest clearing and urban development.
Habitat
Parkia bahiae is endemic to Brazil's Atlantic Forest (Mata Atlântica), occurring in humid lowland and montane forests. The species requires intact forest canopy and is particularly associated with primary forest remnants in coastal and near-coastal regions of Bahia state.
