Omoadiphas texiguatensis
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Omoadiphas texiguatensis faces severe threats from habitat destruction due to agricultural expansion and urban development in its extremely limited range in Guatemala. The species' restriction to a tiny geographic area makes it exceptionally vulnerable to any environmental changes or human activities. Deforestation for coffee plantations and subsistence farming has fragmented the remaining forest patches where this snake occurs.
Habitat
This critically endangered snake inhabits montane cloud forests and pine-oak forests in the highlands of Guatemala. It occurs in areas with dense vegetation cover and high humidity, typically at elevations between 1,500-2,500 meters.
