Neocalyptrocalyx eichleriana
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Neocalyptrocalyx eichleriana faces severe threats from ongoing deforestation and habitat fragmentation within its extremely limited range in the Atlantic Forest of Brazil. Mining activities and agricultural expansion have reduced its already restricted habitat to isolated fragments. The species' narrow ecological requirements and small population size make it particularly vulnerable to any further habitat disturbance or environmental changes.
Habitat
This species is endemic to the Atlantic Forest (Mata Atlântica) of southeastern Brazil, where it inhabits humid montane forests and forest edges. It occurs in areas with dense canopy cover and rich understory vegetation typical of this highly threatened biodiversity hotspot.
