Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
The Mindoro Imperial-Pigeon faces severe pressure from widespread deforestation across Mindoro Island, where logging and agricultural conversion have eliminated much of its primary forest habitat. Hunting pressure remains significant, as these large, conspicuous pigeons are targeted for food and the pet trade. The species' restricted range on a single island makes it particularly vulnerable to habitat fragmentation, with remaining forest patches becoming increasingly isolated and degraded.
Habitat
This endemic pigeon inhabits primary and secondary lowland forests on Mindoro Island in the Philippines, preferring dense canopy areas with abundant fruiting trees. It occurs from sea level up to approximately 1,200 meters elevation, though it is most commonly found in undisturbed forest below 800 meters.
