Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Manettia canescens faces severe population decline primarily due to extensive deforestation and agricultural conversion within its restricted range in the Atlantic Forest of southeastern Brazil. The species' extremely limited distribution makes it particularly vulnerable to habitat fragmentation, as remaining forest patches become increasingly isolated and degraded. Urban expansion and infrastructure development continue to reduce available habitat, while the small population size increases vulnerability to stochastic events and genetic bottlenecks.
Habitat
This species is endemic to the Atlantic Forest (Mata Atlântica) of southeastern Brazil, where it inhabits humid montane forests and forest edges at elevations between 800-1,200 meters. It typically occurs in areas with dense canopy cover and rich understory vegetation characteristic of well-preserved Atlantic Forest remnants.
