Malouetia lata
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Malouetia lata faces severe pressure from deforestation and agricultural expansion across its limited range in the Atlantic Forest of southeastern Brazil. The species' restricted distribution makes it particularly vulnerable to habitat fragmentation, as remaining forest patches become increasingly isolated. Mining activities and urban development continue to reduce available habitat, while the slow growth rate typical of tropical trees limits the species' ability to recover from disturbance.
Habitat
Malouetia lata is endemic to the Atlantic Forest (Mata Atlântica) of southeastern Brazil, occurring in humid lowland and montane forests. The species typically grows in well-drained soils within primary and secondary forest formations at elevations ranging from sea level to approximately 800 meters.
