Mallotus atrovirens
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Mallotus atrovirens faces severe pressure from deforestation and agricultural expansion across its Southeast Asian range, particularly affecting lowland and hill forest habitats. Palm oil plantations and logging operations have fragmented remaining populations, while the species' limited dispersal ability makes recolonization of cleared areas extremely difficult. Urban development and infrastructure projects continue to reduce available habitat, with some subpopulations now isolated in small forest fragments.
Habitat
This species inhabits primary and secondary lowland forests, hill forests, and forest edges at elevations up to 800 meters. It typically occurs in areas with well-drained soils and partial canopy cover, often found along forest margins and in disturbed forest habitats.
