Magnolia sapaensis
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Magnolia sapaensis faces severe pressure from deforestation and habitat conversion in the montane forests of northern Vietnam. Agricultural expansion, particularly for crops and livestock grazing, has fragmented its limited range in the Hoang Lien Son mountains. The species' restricted distribution makes it particularly vulnerable to localized threats, while timber harvesting and infrastructure development continue to reduce available habitat.
Habitat
Magnolia sapaensis inhabits montane evergreen forests at elevations between 1,500-2,200 meters in the Hoang Lien Son mountain range of northern Vietnam. The species grows in cool, humid conditions within mixed broadleaf forests dominated by temperate tree species.
