Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Phylloscartes ceciliae faces severe threats from rapid deforestation and habitat fragmentation within its extremely restricted range in Brazil's Atlantic Forest. Agricultural expansion, particularly cattle ranching and sugarcane cultivation, has eliminated most of its lowland forest habitat. The species' highly specialized habitat requirements and small population size make it exceptionally vulnerable to any further habitat loss or degradation.
Habitat
This critically endangered flycatcher inhabits the understory and mid-story of primary and mature secondary Atlantic Forest in southeastern Brazil. It requires dense, humid forest with complex vertical structure and is typically found at elevations between 50-800 meters in coastal and near-coastal regions.
