Kielmeyera sigillata
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Kielmeyera sigillata faces severe threats from agricultural expansion and cattle ranching in Brazil's Cerrado savanna, which has resulted in extensive habitat conversion and fragmentation. Mining activities and urban development have further reduced the species' already limited range, while frequent fires associated with agricultural practices degrade remaining habitat patches.
Habitat
This species is endemic to the Cerrado savanna ecosystem of central Brazil, where it grows in open grasslands and woodland savannas with well-drained soils. It typically occurs in areas with distinct wet and dry seasons, adapted to the natural fire cycles and nutrient-poor soils characteristic of the Cerrado biome.
