Kadua nukuhivensis
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Kadua nukuhivensis faces severe threats from invasive plant species that outcompete native vegetation and alter forest composition on Nuku Hiva. Habitat degradation from introduced ungulates, particularly feral pigs and goats, has damaged the understory vegetation where this endemic coffee family species grows. The species' extremely restricted range on a single island makes it highly vulnerable to stochastic events and ongoing environmental changes.
Habitat
This endemic shrub occurs in montane cloud forests and humid valleys of Nuku Hiva in the Marquesas Islands. It grows in the understory of native forest remnants at elevations where moisture levels remain consistently high.
