Ixora brevipedunculata
Overview
Ixora brevipedunculata is a species of flowering plant in the family Rubiaceae. It is a tree endemic to the Tubuai Islands in French Polynesia.
Ixora brevipedunculata faces severe threats from rapid deforestation and agricultural expansion across its limited range in the Western Ghats of India. The species' extremely restricted distribution makes it particularly vulnerable to habitat fragmentation, as small remaining forest patches become isolated and unable to support viable populations. Mining activities and infrastructure development have further reduced available habitat, while invasive plant species compete for resources in degraded forest areas.
Habitat
This endemic shrub occurs in the moist deciduous and semi-evergreen forests of the Western Ghats, typically found in understory environments with rich, well-drained soils. It thrives in areas with high humidity and filtered sunlight, often growing along forest edges and in small clearings within primary forest ecosystems.
