Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Isoetes taiwanensis faces severe threats from habitat destruction due to agricultural expansion and urban development in Taiwan's lowland areas. The species' extremely restricted range makes it particularly vulnerable to water pollution from agricultural runoff and industrial activities. Dam construction and water diversion projects have altered natural water flow patterns in the few remaining wetland habitats where this quillwort survives.
Habitat
Isoetes taiwanensis inhabits shallow freshwater pools, seasonal wetlands, and marshy areas in Taiwan's lowland regions. The species requires clean, nutrient-poor waters with sandy or muddy substrates where it can establish its distinctive rosette growth form.
