Ilex dabieshanensis
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Ilex dabieshanensis faces severe pressure from habitat destruction as montane forests in the Dabie Mountains are cleared for agriculture and development. The species' extremely limited range makes it particularly vulnerable to local disturbances, with small population fragments isolated by habitat fragmentation. Climate change poses an additional threat as warming temperatures may force this montane specialist to higher elevations where suitable habitat becomes increasingly scarce.
Habitat
This endemic holly species inhabits montane broadleaf forests and forest margins in the Dabie Mountains of eastern China, typically growing at elevations between 800-1,500 meters. It occurs in mixed deciduous and evergreen forests with rich, well-drained soils and moderate moisture levels.
