Dalbergia florifera
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Dalbergia florifera faces severe pressure from illegal logging and timber harvesting, as this rosewood species produces highly valuable wood prized for furniture and musical instruments. Habitat conversion for agriculture and urban development has fragmented its remaining forest populations across Central America. The species' slow growth rate and limited regeneration capacity make recovery particularly challenging once populations are depleted.
Habitat
This species inhabits tropical dry forests and semi-deciduous forests in Central America, typically growing in well-drained soils at elevations from sea level to 800 meters. It occurs in both primary and secondary forest formations, often along forest edges and in areas with seasonal rainfall patterns.
