Horsfieldia tristis
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Horsfieldia tristis faces severe pressure from deforestation and habitat conversion throughout its Southeast Asian range. The species is particularly vulnerable to logging operations and agricultural expansion, as it depends on intact lowland and hill forest ecosystems. Palm oil plantations and urban development have fragmented remaining populations, while the tree's slow growth rate limits natural recovery from disturbance.
Habitat
Horsfieldia tristis inhabits primary and secondary lowland rainforests and hill forests up to 800 meters elevation. The species typically grows in well-drained soils along forest edges and in gaps within the forest canopy throughout peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, and Borneo.
