Eleutherodactylus paulsoni
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Eleutherodactylus paulsoni faces severe threats from habitat destruction due to urban development and agricultural expansion across its extremely limited range in Puerto Rico. The species' small population size makes it particularly vulnerable to stochastic events and environmental changes. Introduced predators and competitors, along with potential disease outbreaks, pose additional risks to the remaining populations of this endemic frog.
Habitat
This species inhabits humid montane forests and coffee plantations in the central mountains of Puerto Rico, typically found in leaf litter and low vegetation. It requires moist microhabitats with adequate cover for breeding and foraging in elevations between 400-900 meters.
