Heptapleurum kuchingense
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Heptapleurum kuchingense faces severe threats from rapid deforestation and urban development in its native Borneo range. The species' extremely limited distribution makes it particularly vulnerable to habitat fragmentation, while logging activities have destroyed much of the lowland forest it depends upon. Agricultural expansion for palm oil plantations continues to reduce available habitat, pushing this endemic tree closer to extinction.
Habitat
This endemic tree species inhabits lowland tropical rainforests of Borneo, typically found in primary forest environments with rich, well-drained soils. It occurs at elevations below 500 meters in areas with high humidity and consistent rainfall patterns.
