Gustavia erythrocarpa
Overview
Gustavia erythrocarpa is a species of woody plant in the family Lecythidaceae. It is found only in Brazil. It is threatened by habitat loss.
Gustavia erythrocarpa faces severe population decline primarily due to deforestation and habitat fragmentation across its limited range in the Amazon Basin. Agricultural expansion, particularly cattle ranching and soy cultivation, has eliminated much of its lowland rainforest habitat. The species' restricted distribution and small population size make it extremely vulnerable to local extinctions from logging activities and infrastructure development.
Habitat
Gustavia erythrocarpa inhabits lowland tropical rainforests of the Amazon Basin, typically found in primary forest understory and forest edges at elevations below 500 meters. The species requires intact forest canopy and is associated with nutrient-rich soils near riverine systems.
