Glochidion hivaoaense
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Glochidion hivaoaense faces severe threats from habitat destruction on its native island of Hiva Oa in the Marquesas Islands. The species' extremely limited range makes it vulnerable to invasive plant species that alter forest composition and compete for resources. Feral ungulates, particularly goats and pigs, damage the understory vegetation where this endemic shrub grows, while human development pressures continue to fragment its already restricted habitat.
Habitat
This endemic shrub inhabits the mesic forests and forest margins of Hiva Oa island in the Marquesas archipelago. It grows in understory and edge habitats within native Polynesian forest ecosystems at moderate elevations.
