Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Geissois imthurnii faces severe pressure from deforestation and habitat conversion throughout its limited range in New Caledonia's rainforests. Mining activities, particularly nickel extraction, pose a significant threat to remaining populations by directly destroying habitat and fragmenting forest corridors. The species' restricted distribution makes it especially vulnerable to localized disturbances, with small population sizes unable to recover quickly from habitat loss.
Habitat
This endemic New Caledonian tree species inhabits humid rainforests and montane forests, typically growing in well-drained soils on slopes and ridges. It occurs primarily in the island's remaining primary forest fragments at elevations between 200-800 meters.
