Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Euphorbia abdelkuri faces severe pressure from overgrazing by introduced goats and cattle on Socotra Island, which prevents natural regeneration and damages existing plants. The species' extremely limited range makes it vulnerable to stochastic events, while climate change threatens to alter the delicate moisture balance of its highland habitat. Collection for horticultural trade poses an additional threat to remaining populations.
Habitat
This endemic succulent occurs exclusively in the granite mountains of Socotra Island, Yemen, inhabiting rocky slopes and cliff faces at elevations between 300-1,500 meters. It thrives in semi-arid conditions with seasonal moisture from monsoon mists and occasional rainfall.
