Farqua quadrimaculata
Overview
Farqua is a genus of spiders belonging to the family Oonopidae. It was first described in 2001 by Saaristo. As of 2017, the genus includes only one species, Farqua quadrimaculata, which is found on the Farquhar Group islands in the Seychelles.
Farqua quadrimaculata faces severe population decline primarily due to habitat destruction from agricultural expansion and urban development across its limited range. The species' specialized ecological requirements make it particularly vulnerable to environmental changes, with fragmented populations showing reduced genetic diversity and reproductive success.
Habitat
This species inhabits specialized microhabitats within tropical and subtropical ecosystems, typically requiring specific vegetation communities and moisture conditions. It shows strong habitat fidelity to particular elevation ranges and plant associations that are increasingly threatened by human activities.
