Eriotheca dolichopoda
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Eriotheca dolichopoda faces significant pressure from agricultural expansion and cattle ranching activities that fragment and destroy its native Cerrado habitat. Deforestation for soybean cultivation and pasture establishment has reduced suitable habitat across its range in central Brazil. Fire suppression and altered burning regimes also threaten this species, as natural fire cycles are essential for Cerrado ecosystem health and regeneration.
Habitat
This species is endemic to the Cerrado savanna ecosystem of central Brazil, where it grows in well-drained soils of gallery forests and woodland savannas. It typically occurs at elevations between 400-1000 meters in areas with distinct wet and dry seasons.
