Eremanthus reticulatus
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Eremanthus reticulatus faces severe pressure from agricultural expansion and cattle ranching across its limited range in Brazil's Cerrado savanna. Mining activities and urban development have fragmented remaining populations, while frequent fires associated with land conversion destroy critical habitat. The species' restricted distribution makes it particularly vulnerable to localized threats, with several known populations already extirpated from areas converted to soybean cultivation.
Habitat
This endemic Brazilian shrub inhabits rocky outcrops and sandy soils within Cerrado savanna ecosystems, typically occurring at elevations between 800-1200 meters. It shows preference for well-drained quartzitic substrates and open woodland margins where it forms part of the specialized campo rupestre vegetation community.
