Overview
Pristimantis rubicundus is a species of frog in the family Strabomantidae. It is endemic to Ecuador. Its natural habitat is tropical moist montane forest. It is threatened by habitat loss.
Cutín rubicundo faces significant threats from habitat loss and fragmentation due to deforestation, agricultural expansion, and urban development throughout its Andean range. The species' restricted elevational range and specialized habitat requirements make it particularly vulnerable to climate change impacts, which are altering temperature and precipitation patterns in montane ecosystems.
Habitat
This species inhabits cloud forests and montane humid forests in the Andes, typically occurring at elevations between 1,500-3,000 meters. It is found in primary and secondary forest habitats with dense vegetation and high humidity levels characteristic of Andean cloud forest ecosystems.
