Overview
Pristimantis muscosus is a species of frog in the family Strabomantidae. It is only found on the Cordillera del Condor of southern Ecuador and northern Peru.
Cutín de Musgo faces significant threats from habitat loss due to deforestation and agricultural expansion in its limited montane range. Climate change poses additional risks by altering the specific temperature and humidity conditions required by this moss-dwelling species, while its restricted distribution makes populations particularly vulnerable to local extinctions.
Habitat
This species inhabits cloud forests and humid montane forests between 1,500-2,500m elevation in the Andes. It is specifically associated with moss-covered surfaces on trees, rocks, and forest floor substrates in areas with high humidity and consistent moisture levels.
