Homoeodera elateroides
Overview
Homoeodera elateroides, the click beetle-like fungus weevil is a species of beetle belonging to the family Anthribidae. The species is endemic to Saint Helena.
Homoeodera elateroides faces severe population decline due to extensive deforestation and habitat conversion in its native range. The species' specialized ecological requirements make it particularly vulnerable to forest fragmentation, as it depends on specific microhabitat conditions found only in undisturbed forest ecosystems. Agricultural expansion and urban development have eliminated much of its historical range, while remaining populations are increasingly isolated in small forest patches.
Habitat
This species inhabits tropical and subtropical forest ecosystems, typically found in the leaf litter and decaying organic matter of primary forest floors. It requires specific moisture and temperature conditions maintained by intact forest canopy cover.
