Chamaecrista fodinarum
Declining
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Chamaecrista fodinarum faces severe threats from mining activities and quarrying operations that directly destroy its specialized habitat. The species' extremely limited range makes it particularly vulnerable to habitat fragmentation and degradation from industrial development. Urban expansion and infrastructure development further compress the remaining suitable habitat patches.
Habitat
This species is endemic to specialized rocky outcrops and disturbed soils in mining areas of southeastern Brazil. It typically grows in open, sandy or gravelly substrates with sparse vegetation cover in the Cerrado biome.
