Ceiba rubriflora
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Ceiba rubriflora faces severe pressure from agricultural expansion and cattle ranching across its limited range in the Caatinga and Atlantic Forest regions of northeastern Brazil. Deforestation for sugarcane plantations and urban development has fragmented remaining populations, while the species' slow growth rate and specific soil requirements make natural regeneration extremely difficult in degraded areas.
Habitat
This endemic Brazilian tree species inhabits dry forests and woodland savannas of the Caatinga biome and transitional zones with Atlantic Forest. It typically grows on well-drained soils in semi-arid regions of northeastern Brazil, particularly in Pernambuco and surrounding states.
