Calycorectes sellowianus
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Calycorectes sellowianus faces severe population decline primarily due to extensive deforestation and habitat fragmentation across Brazil's Atlantic Forest region. Urban expansion and agricultural conversion have eliminated much of its native forest habitat, while remaining populations are increasingly isolated in small forest fragments. The species' limited dispersal ability and specific habitat requirements make it particularly vulnerable to continued forest loss and degradation.
Habitat
This endemic Brazilian species inhabits the Atlantic Forest (Mata Atlântica) biome, occurring in both lowland and montane rainforest environments. It typically grows in the understory and canopy of primary and well-developed secondary forests, particularly in areas with high humidity and rich, well-drained soils.
