Byttneria minytricha
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Byttneria minytricha faces severe threats from ongoing deforestation and habitat fragmentation within its extremely limited range in the Atlantic Forest of Brazil. Agricultural expansion, particularly cattle ranching and sugarcane cultivation, continues to reduce the remaining forest patches where this species occurs. Urban development pressures and infrastructure projects further fragment the already restricted habitat, isolating small populations and reducing genetic diversity.
Habitat
This species is endemic to the Atlantic Forest (Mata Atlântica) of southeastern Brazil, occurring in remnant patches of lowland and montane tropical rainforest. It typically grows in the understory of primary and well-developed secondary forests with high humidity and rich, well-drained soils.
