Byrsonima fonsecae faces severe pressure from agricultural expansion and cattle ranching activities that have fragmented and destroyed much of its native cerrado habitat. Urban development and infrastructure projects continue to reduce the remaining patches of suitable habitat, while altered fire regimes disrupt the natural ecological processes this species depends upon for regeneration.
Habitat
This endemic Brazilian species occurs in cerrado savanna ecosystems, particularly in areas with well-drained sandy soils and seasonal rainfall patterns. It typically grows in open woodland and grassland transitions within the cerrado biome of central Brazil.
