Chorthippus bozdaghi
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Chorthippus bozdaghi faces severe threats from habitat destruction due to agricultural expansion and urban development in its extremely limited range on Bozdağ Mountain in Turkey. The species' restriction to high-altitude grassland habitats makes it particularly vulnerable to climate change impacts, as warming temperatures force suitable habitat upslope with nowhere left to retreat. Overgrazing by livestock has degraded the native grassland communities this grasshopper depends on for food and breeding sites.
Habitat
This grasshopper is endemic to high-altitude grassland and meadow habitats on Bozdağ Mountain in western Turkey. It occupies alpine and subalpine zones with native grass communities, typically above 1,500 meters elevation where cooler temperatures and specific vegetation types create suitable microhabitats.
