Beilschmiedia brevipes
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Beilschmiedia brevipes faces severe pressure from deforestation and habitat conversion throughout its limited range in Southeast Asian tropical forests. Agricultural expansion, particularly oil palm plantations and logging operations, continues to fragment the remaining forest patches where this laurel species occurs. The species' restricted distribution makes it particularly vulnerable to localized habitat destruction, with populations declining as mature forest ecosystems are cleared for development.
Habitat
This species inhabits primary and secondary tropical rainforests, typically found in lowland and hill forest ecosystems up to moderate elevations. It grows in the understory and canopy layers of humid evergreen forests with rich, well-drained soils.
