Overview
Sorocea guilleminiana is a species of plant in the family Moraceae. It is native to South America.
Bainha-de-espada faces significant pressure from habitat loss and fragmentation due to deforestation and agricultural expansion throughout its range in Atlantic Forest and Cerrado regions. The species' populations are declining as continuous forest areas are converted to pasture, cropland, and urban development, reducing available habitat and isolating remaining populations.
Habitat
This species occurs in Atlantic Forest remnants, gallery forests, and Cerrado woodland areas, typically in humid forest understory and forest edges from lowlands to montane elevations up to 1,500m. It is found in both primary and secondary forest formations, often along watercourses and in areas with rich, well-drained soils.
