Overview
Scottmoria rimbachii is a species of flowering plant in the family Lecythidaceae. It is a tree native to Colombia and Ecuador. It grows in lowland and montane rain forests from sea level to 3,600 meters elevation.
Angua de Mono faces significant threats from deforestation and habitat fragmentation across its limited range in the Amazon basin. Agricultural expansion, logging activities, and infrastructure development continue to reduce and fragment the tropical forest ecosystems this species depends on for survival.
Habitat
This species inhabits tropical moist lowland forests and terra firme forests of the Amazon basin, typically occurring in primary and secondary forest formations at elevations below 800 meters. It is commonly found in the understory and canopy of dense rainforest environments with high humidity and consistent rainfall patterns.
